Bareboat Charter Registration

Bareboat chartering under the Comoros flag is available for vessels registered with the Comoros Maritime Administration, whether on a provisional or permanent basis. The Administration permits bareboat charter arrangements into, out of, or within the registry, subject to statutory requirements and approval by the International Registrar.

Bareboat Chartering Under a Structured Maritime Framework

As a general rule, vessels should be above 1,500 GT; however, exemptions may be granted on a case-by-case basis. Charter periods are subject to minimum duration requirements and must comply with the applicable provisions of the Merchant Shipping Act.

Where documentation is complete and in order, approvals are typically issued within 24 hours. Shipowners are encouraged to review Sections 28–35 of the Merchant Shipping Act prior to submitting an application.

Bareboat Charter Out

Vessels seeking permission to bareboat charter out of the Comoros registry can contact us.

The use of ΒΙΜCO 2009 is strongly recommended. Where used, the agreement must clearly identify the Comoros registry as the underlying registry and confirm that the bareboat charterer assumes responsibility for the management, operation, and control of the vessel for the duration of the charter.

Applications that do not meet these conditions may not be approved.

For applications to bareboat charter a vessel into the Comoros registry you can contact us.

The Bareboat Charter Agreement must expressly state that the bareboat charterer assumes full responsibility for the vessel’s management, operation, and control throughout the charter period. Failure to demonstrate this may result in rejection of the application.

Bareboat chartering within the Comoros flag follows the same procedure as Bareboat Charter In. In most cases, vessels must hold permanent registration prior to approval for bareboat chartering within the registry.
